Last week I posted my first ever Small Business Saturday post. Like I said in that post, I had a fair few businesses to mention so split the post in two because I didn’t and don’t want to gloss over any business.

Closet Geek
I have followed Closet Geek for so long on instagram but only recently placed my first order. Closet Geek pretty much do everything. T-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, pin flags, travel document wallets, ear holders… I could go on. The products have stunning embroidery and there are always lots of colour options too! I have a fair few pins now and have been looking for a pin flag to display them nicely but I wasn’t content purchasing a boring flag from Amazon. I purchased a Harry Potter inspired pin flag from Closet Geek and it is amazing, the quality is great and it’s the perfect home for my pins! I got in touch with Closet Geek to ask about colours for the flag itself and the embroidery and they were so helpful! I ended up going Burgundy #GryffindorPride – I may now have another pin flag ordered, a Disney inspired design this time and a gorgeous sweatshirt. If you love Disney and Harry Potter, this is a small shop you should definitely check out!

Sarah x Illustrations
This small business is so much more than illustrations. Sarah offers the most stunning enamel pins, post cards, prints, stickers, and I know that recently she has started producing activity sheets during lockdown which can either be posted out, or you can download and print yourself. I currently have 6 enamel pins from Sarah x Illustrations (you’re getting no prizes for guessing they are all Harry Potter inspired designs…) I’m pretty sure all pins are graded depending on any wee marks etc. I ordered mine during a flash/ready to ship sale (I can’t remember what it was actually called) and they are just amazing. So detailed and beautiful. I recently supported Sarah’s kickstarter for mini pins so will be the proud owner of 8 more pins very soon, and thankfully I turned on her Instagram countdown and managed to order one of the stunning Diagon Alley inspired pins which I know are now sold out. There are also Disney, Pokemon, Studio Ghibli, Star Wars inspired products available so don’t be put off by my Harry Potter obsession, it is not a shop just for Harry Potter fans!

Edinburgh Natural Skincare Company
For this discovery, my mum needs credit. “Shona, I’ve ordered some solid hand cream bars to be delivered and I’ve sent some to your brother too’. This sentence filled me with scepticism, I won’t lie. Solid hand cream? But, from first use my hands were softer and feeling great and my scepticism had disappeared! For context, my hands were cracked and horrible from the increased hand washing and I had tried another three brands’ products, none of which did anything. The Edinburgh Skincare products really are incredible and I am so in love with the brand’s ethos. I have recommended this brand to so many of my friends and family and I know some of them, including my Auntie, has placed an order. I love perusing this brand’s website and Instagram and I have my eye on so many of their products. Cannot wait for a post-lockdown trip to Edinburgh to visit one of the stores!

Cakes By Alli-Baba
This one is local to me so it may be great for you, but I do apologise if you are not near Aberdeen! I have to admit that I hadn’t really heard of Cakes By Alli-Baba before but my mum had a lockdown birthday and, as you probably know, one of our favourite activities is going for afternoon tea… Enter Cakes By Alli-Baba and the delivery of a Big Baba Afternoon Tea. Contacting them was super easy and delivery was non-contact and seamless. The amount of food delivered was unreal, and the quality was incredible. I ordered the bigger afternoon tea option so per person we got three flavours of sandwich on a variety of bread/wraps; two sausage rolls; a wee pastry; two scones – one plain and one fruit – and then there were about 5 sweet cakes/pastries/tray bakes each as well. They really did provide everything down to teabags, coffee sachets, and butter and jam portions. My mum has recommended this and I know one of her friend’s ordered, and enjoyed, an afternoon tea delivery too! If you are local, I cannot recommend enough!
You can find Cakes By Alli-Baba on Facebook and check out their instagram @cakesbyallibaba

Hopefully, you’ve enjoyed my second #SmallBusinessSaturday post! I know it would mean a lot to every small business for you to check them out, please don’t think you have to make a purchase to support them – liking and sharing their content is such a supportive thing to do.

Let me know your favourite small businesses, my bank account may not but I will certainly thank you!

Until next time,
Shona x
