Over the past few weeks I have become obsessed with Disney blogs and vlogs. I have a fair collection of Disney merch, nothing in comparison to a lot of people but I am inspired to expand this… Sorry bank balance! These blogs and vlogs have encouraged me to write a Disney related post of my own so… Enjoy!
Lilo and Stitch is my favourite Disney film. Saying this, I am in love with new release, Moana. I also love Inside Out, Monsters University and Beauty and the Beast. Okay so maybe it’s difficult to pick just one favourite… Every Disney fan loves lots of Disney movies, right? Lilo and Stitch has been a firm favourite since its release in 2002 when I was just 7 years old though. I feel like it’s overlooked in favour of movies containing Disney princesses. So, I’m here to tell you why Lilo and Stitch is (one of) the best, and has been for the last 15 years.
Lilo and Stitch highlighted the importance of a sister relationship way before Frozen. Nani is 19 years old and takes on the responsibility of looking after 6-year-old Lilo following their parents’ death. Is Nani perfect? No, but she never gives up and does everything she can for Lilo. Even when things are falling apart, she still stays positive because she doesn’t want Lilo to worry. It’s an absolutely heart-warming relationship and (apologies to my brother) made me wish I had a sister just like Nani.
To me, Lilo and Stitch contains a lot of important messages. I love the movie for showing you should be kind to everyone and also for highlighting it’s okay to be different. Ohana is probably my favourite thing to ever be featured in a Disney movie. ‘Ohana means family, family means no one gets left behind or forgotten’. Seriously, these are words to live by and I love this quote so much.
Can we please also discuss just how cute Stitch is? I have so many mugs, plush toys, figurines, cushions, even slippers of Stitch. My 21st birthday cake featured Stitch and I was over the moon with it.
There are so many reasons Lilo and Stitch is a favourite Disney film. The story, the animation, the soundtrack, the accompanying merchandise… I think it will be a forever favourite. It’s a dream to buy a blue French bulldog and call him Stitch.
I hope I’ve inspired you to go and watch Lilo and Stitch. What’s your favourite Disney film?
